site2map

So you want a plain HTML Site Map for your site. Well, NetObjects Fusion can do that for you... at least it can if you download Site2Map, our conversion program.

Site2Map works by converting NetObjects Fusion's Java-based "SiteMapper" into the plain HTML Site Map you can see here.

Here's how it works.

  1. First, you need to add the SiteMapper component to your site. Do this by choosing View/Toolbars and making sure that the "Component Tools" toolbar is turned on.

sitemapper-iconClick on the SiteMapper icon, then on your page. It will add this icon: . This automatically becomes a link to the Java-based SiteMapper component.

  2. Publish your site to your hard disk.

When you publish, NetObjects Fusion publishes a bunch of files. Site2Map requires one of these: SiteMapper.html

  3. Run Site2Map. It will ask you what file you want to convert. Go to the directory where you published the site and choose Sitemapper.html in the root directory of your site. Do not choose Sitemapper1 or Sitemapper2. Neither of these files will work correctly.

  4. Site2Map creates a new file called Plainmap.html

  5. Create a new page in NetObjects Fusion where you want your sitemap to appear.

  6. Choose File/Import HTML Page and select Plainmap.html

  7. You can reformat and redesign this page any way you want.

  8. IMPORTANT: Before you publish, you MUST go into Publish view and manually drag the file that contains this sitemap into the root directory of your site--otherwise the links will not work correctly.

Site2Map is distributed on an as-is basis with no warranties or support given or implied. Use at your own risk. We know that sounds mean and scary but this is a freebie and it works well as far as we can tell (Hey, we're using it ourselves!).

Site2Map is (c) 1998 Bruce Eckel. Eckel is an expert in C++ and Java, and has literally written the book on them. Visit his site for more info about his books and seminars, but please do not e-mail him for technical support. This would only make him cranky when he was nice enough to write this program for all of us.

Site2Map is distributed by www.eFuse.com. You can may use it freely, but you may not redistribute it in any form.

We hope you like it. If you don't--well, don't just whine and complain--do something better yourself and send it to us so we can share it as we've done with this!
